On September 13th-15th, 2024, Glia Impact Hub in Chisinau became a hub of innovation and empowerment as Startup Moldova hosted the Techstars_ Startup Weekend: “Let’s Innovate Together.” This three-day hackathon had a clear and inspiring mission—to attract and empower women to take an active role in the tech industry, breaking down barriers and encouraging their participation in tech-related projects.
The event was led by Doina Iațișin, a Techstars_ Facilitator and CEO of Media Consulting Group. For 54 hours, participants were mentored by an incredible team of experts, who shared their knowledge, insights, and experience:
- Roman Gluck
- Ion Olari
- Aliona Rotaru
- Irina Malai
- Nichita Catrecico
- Irina Fiodorova
- Aliona Zapanovici
- Adrian Manole
- Ștefan Bîstrițchi
A key highlight of the event was the two workshops designed to equip participants with the tools and skills necessary to transform their ideas into viable businesses.
Workshop 1: Business Model Canvas, led by Viorica Cerbușca (CEO of Artcor and Founder of Yep Moldova), helped participants break down their project ideas into manageable components. The Business Model Canvas served as a powerful tool, allowing them to map out crucial elements such as their value proposition, customer segments, revenue streams, and key activities. This session empowered participants to turn complex ideas into actionable steps, getting them closer to building sustainable business models.
Workshop 2: How to Pitch, facilitated by Roman Gluck (Product Manager at Pentalog and Public Speaking Trainer), was essential in preparing participants to present their ideas confidently. Roman guided them through the elements of a compelling pitch—clarity, engagement, and delivering value. Participants were given the opportunity to practice their presentations, refining their delivery and receiving valuable feedback that bolstered their confidence.
Throughout the hackathon, six teams of motivated participants worked tirelessly to develop their ideas, supported by the mentors and workshops. The collaborative environment fostered creativity, with each team pushing boundaries to bring innovative solutions to life. As they worked through the 54-hour challenge, participants learned the power of collaboration, perseverance, and the transformative impact that tech innovations can bring to society.
The event was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of women’s potential in tech and an opportunity to build a stronger, more inclusive tech ecosystem. By the end of the weekend, every participant walked away with valuable skills, new connections, and a renewed sense of purpose in their tech journeys.
As we look toward the future, the message is clear: women belong in tech. Through initiatives like this, we can inspire more women to take their place at the forefront of technological innovation, creating a more diverse, equitable, and forward-thinking industry.
Together, let’s innovate and create a brighter future for all.
