Moldova Is Building for the World, and Startup Moldova Summit 2026 Just Proved It

For years, Moldova’s startup ecosystem was described as “emerging.” A country with potential. A market to watch. A story still being written. Startup Moldova Summit 2026 changed that narrative for good.

30 Apr 2026

The largest edition of Startup Moldova Summit brought together in Chisinau 2,000 participants, over 60 speakers, 150 startups, and investors from the Republic of Moldova and abroad. Beyond the intensive agenda, this year's edition, co-funded by EU4Innovation East, marked a step forward for the startup ecosystem, which will now have better access to investment, acceleration programs, international expertise, and European markets, thanks to the partnerships established and memorandums signed.

The summit's agenda also included three workshop zones with practical sessions in Romanian and English, Startup Alley, where 42 startups showcased their products, as well as the Startup World Cup Moldova competition final, whose winner will represent Moldova in San Francisco for the chance to win a $1 million investment.

At the official opening, Olga Melniciuc, CEO of Startup Moldova Foundation, emphasized that the local ecosystem is experiencing accelerated growth and gaining increasing regional and international relevance.

Olga Melniciuc, CEO, Startup Moldova Foundation: "Startup Moldova Summit 2026 shows very clearly that our ecosystem is no longer in a phase of promise, but in one of real construction. We see more courageous founders, more capital, more international connections, and more interest in Moldova as a place where globally competitive companies can emerge. For us, this edition was not only the largest so far, but also one of the most important through the concrete steps we have taken for the future of Moldovan startups."

At the opening event, the European Union Delegation in Chisinau reiterated its support for the development of Moldova's innovation ecosystem and its connection to European opportunities. Startup Moldova Summit was organized with the support of international partners who actively contribute to the development of innovation in the region.

Julien Schmitt, EU4Innovation East Programme Director: "Startup Moldova Summit 2026 reflects the continued progress of Moldova's entrepreneurial ecosystem. For the second consecutive year, the European Union, through the EU4Innovation East project, is proud to support this platform that connects founders, investors, and international markets. As the number of startups in Moldova grows, so does the need for stronger support structures and access to capital. A memorandum was also signed, bringing together Moldova Innovation Technology Park, Startup Moldova, and the Ukrainian Startup Fund, facilitated by EU4Innovation East, a clear statement of how we contribute to strengthening the innovation ecosystem across the region and creating new opportunities for innovation. This collaboration will help founders from both countries to grow beyond borders and integrate more effectively into the European innovation ecosystem."

New Partnerships Expanding Access to Capital, Acceleration, and International Markets

One of the most important outcomes of this year's edition was the announcement of the memorandum signing between Unicorn Factory Lisbon and Startup Moldova, aimed at accelerating the integration of Moldovan startups into the European market.

The collaboration will facilitate access for local companies to international acceleration programs, go-to-market initiatives, scale-up opportunities, exchange of best practices, mentors, and international expertise, helping connect Moldovan founders with European Union markets and boost their global competitiveness.

Also at the summit, it was announced that the startup ecosystems of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine will have more shared growth opportunities following the partnership between MITP, Startup Moldova, and the Ukrainian Startup Fund. The collaboration targets funding and acceleration programs, access to European funds, and regional initiatives that can create real opportunities for founders in both countries.

Furthermore, the partnership established between SeedBlink and Startup Moldova brings to the region a new solution for startups and companies looking to attract investments from multiple investors in a more accessible, structured, and transparent way. Through this collaboration, startups will be able to list their investment rounds, and investors will be able to participate easily, clearly, and securely in funding the next generation of innovative companies. At the same time, the partnership helps connect Moldova's ecosystem to modern equity management tools and European investment networks.

Global Ideas, Practical Lessons, and Fresh Perspectives for Founders

The Startup Moldova Summit 2026 stage welcomed international speakers who brought inspirational ideas on how to build relevant companies in a global economy. From exploration, deeptech, and funding, to scaling, organizational culture, and the future of AI-powered products, the agenda brought together voices that connected Moldovan founders to the conversations shaping today's innovation ecosystems across Europe and the world.

Guillermo Sohnlein, entrepreneur, investor, and explorer, spoke about the courage to pursue ideas that seem too big, too bold, or even impossible , in a presentation about exploration, the future, and the power to build beyond conventional limits. Michiel Scheffer, Chairman of the European Innovation Council Board, highlighted the role of deeptech and the need to support entrepreneurs developing solutions for the world's greatest challenges. Sacha Michaud, co-founder of Glovo, shared lessons from building one of Europe's most dynamic on-demand platforms and spoke about the network effect left behind by companies that grow healthily and generate new generations of founders.

During the fireside chat dedicated to the future of Moldovan startups in the EU, Thibault Charlet, Programme Manager, Digital and Economic Development, DG ENEST, European Commission, and Ionela Titirez, Coordinator for the Republic of Moldova, EU4Innovation East, explored the evolution of Moldova's startup ecosystem, development directions, and how EU opportunities can support local startups to grow and integrate into the European innovation ecosystem.

Also on the summit stage, Jaïr Halevi, startup development and organizational culture expert at Miro, spoke about psychological safety and the fact that real innovation emerges more easily in teams where people can speak openly, test ideas, and raise concerns without fear. Ethan Mayers, Venture Partner at Fairbridge VC, offered a powerful perspective on the shifting landscape of funding and the fact that venture capital is no longer the only possible model for founders. Massimo Giulio Caterino opened the discussion about the future of digital products in a world where traditional interfaces are gradually disappearing, and AI, user intent, and reducing cognitive effort are becoming central to experience design.

The agenda was rounded out by presentations and discussions relevant to founders looking to scale beyond the local market. Bill Reichert, Silicon Valley investor and a key figure of Startup World Cup, spoke about what makes a startup ready for the global stage and the standards by which international investors think. In the scaling panel, Laurent Koerge, Director of Expansion & Franchise at Bolt, explained how a startup launched from a small market can become a European unicorn, while Lidia Scarlat offered a different but equally relevant perspective on how creative talent from Moldova can deliver experiences for global brands such as NASA, Microsoft, Disney, and Nike.

In parallel, the summit included three workshop zones, Inspire Stage, Glass Room, and Startup Stage, designed to combine inspiration with practical content and provide participants with examples, tools, and ideas immediately applicable to developing their own products and companies. Those who wanted to network could use the Brella platform, created to facilitate meetings, discussions, and potential collaborations between founders, investors, and ecosystem partners.

Pitching, International Visibility, and the Chance to Represent Moldova at the San Francisco Final

One of the most anticipated moments of the day was Startup World Cup Moldova, the pitching competition held at Startup Moldova Summit, which brought onto the stage startups ready to compete for international visibility and the opportunity to represent the Republic of Moldova in the San Francisco final.

Ten startups presented their ideas to experienced investors and the audience in attendance. The competition took place in two pitching sessions, moderated by Bill Reichert, one of the most well-known investors and mentors from Silicon Valley, and was complemented by the Jury Investors' Panel, a discussion that brought together prominent names from the investment ecosystem. Beyond the competition, the event offered visibility, valuable feedback, and a real chance for a Moldovan startup to reach the San Francisco final.

1st place went to Promptend AI, the grand winner of the local stage, who advances directly to the World Final in San Francisco to compete for a $1,000,000 prize. 2nd place was won by LyricFluent, and 3rd place by Argus AI, two startups that impressed the jury and demonstrated that Moldova is building solutions with global reach.

Startup Moldova Summit 2026 concluded with the message that Moldova is no longer just an emerging startup market, but an ecosystem that learns fast, builds boldly, and connects increasingly well to international opportunities, and that startups born in Moldova are increasingly ready to be built for the world.
