“Transition to Sustainable Energies: Perspectives and Challenges in Moldova’s Energy Sector”
On Friday, July 14, key players in the Moldovan energy sector came together to discuss the challenges and emerging opportunities within the transition to renewable energies. The Energy Tech Forum – Powering Moldova served as an essential platform for bringing together energy experts, government officials, representatives of the private sector, and technology pioneers, with the aim of developing a constructive dialogue about the future of sustainable energy in the country.
Natalia Bejan, Executive Director of Startup Moldova, moderated the first discussion session, focusing on the confrontation between energy demand and supply.
“It is imperative to innovate to meet the growing demand for energy and to ensure that sustainable solutions are not only feasible but also accessible,” said Natalia.
Victor Parlicov, a representative of the Ministry of Energy, stressed that government measures are vital in supporting the adoption of sustainable energy technologies. Also, Doina Nistor, leader of the Future Technology activities program in Moldova, emphasized the importance of innovation in addressing energy issues.
Jose Luis Gomez Pascual, Country Manager at Premier Energy, provided a perspective on the private sector’s contribution in balancing energy demand and supply. He highlighted the need for closer collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop a common vision for sustainable energy in Moldova. Furthermore, Jose Luis unveiled Premier Energy’s plans to start the project for the first energy balancing power station in Moldova.
Irina Apostol, Developer of the energy management information system – Green City Lab, presented energy management of buildings as a crucial theme.
“Optimizing energy consumption in buildings is not just a matter of efficiency, but also an opportunity to improve indoor air quality and reduce energy losses,” stated Irina.
During a discussion panel moderated by Nicolae Soloviov, Project Manager and National Coordinator of the UNIDO’s GCIP Program, Renewable Energy Policy & Environment Technical Expert, participants debated about the relevance of consumer education in promoting energy efficiency. Cristina Pereteatcu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, emphasized that “Raising consumer awareness about the benefits of sustainable energy is essential for our transition to a green economy.”
In conclusion, the Energy Tech Forum – Powering Moldova played a critical role in stimulating dialogue and collaboration regarding the future of sustainable energy in the country. The forum offered an opportunity to discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and develop strategies for a sustainable energy future in Moldova. What became clear is that the future depends on cooperation between various actors, innovation, and a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of consumers.
